Job Description

**Description** For over 40 years, Leidos has provided environmental characterization and remediation services to Federal clients including the Department of Defense and Department of Energy. The position can be remote/home office or based in Leidos offices near Reston, VA; Cleveland, OH; Seattle, WA; or St. Louis, MO. The **Hydrogeologist** will possess solid field geology skills coupled with quantitative hydrogeologic aptitude. Specifically, the successful candidate must have a solid foundation in the mathematical/physical principles of groundwater flow and contaminant fate and transport but need not be a numerical modeler. Geologists with solid hydrogeologic skills will be considered as will hydrogeologists with solid geologic skills. At Leidos you will support and manage hydrogeologic aspects of environmental site characterization and remediation projects. Your role will span the entire project lifecycle from proposal to final report. Typical tasks will include developing technical approaches for investigations, cost estimating proposals, supporting work plan development, designing field investigations, developing and refining Conceptual Site Models (CSMs), technical report writing and review, and preparing/presenting technical presentations. While PFAS investigations will be a significant portion of your workload, you will also face challenging projects across a wide gamut of contaminants including chlorinated solvents, explosives, radionuclides, petroleum hydrocarbons, SVOCs, metals, and emerging contaminants. Occasionally the workload may include water supply investigations. You will work both independently and collaboratively with Leidos Project Managers, Senior Staff, junior staff, and interface with multiple Leidos offices and subcontractors. Similarly, you will work closely with Leidos' PFAS Technical Advisory Team and our PFAS Technical Lead. **Hydrogeologist responsibilities:** - Developing technical approaches to complex hydrogeologic site investigations and remediation projects. For example, determining the number, location, and construction methods for monitoring wells to delineate the nature and extent of contaminant plumes in various geologic settings (e.g., fractured bedrock, coastal plain sediments, glacial outwash over buried valleys, and variably saturated alluvial deposits in high desert). - Working with project teams to develop CSMs for contaminant nature, extent, fate, and transport. Including working with Leidos 3D modeling staff and groundwater modeling staff. Refining CSMs as new data become available. - Presenting technical information to project teams and stakeholders including Leidos staff, clients, regulatory agencies, and the public. - Analysis and interpretation of aquifer test and slug test data. Review and interpretation of water quality data, laboratory results, remedial system performance data, pilot test data. Synthesizing data to formulate technical approaches for remediation and/or site characterization. **Qualifications:** - Requires BS in geology or hydrogeology and with minimum of 4+ years' experience in the environmental consulting field, or a Masters degree with a minimum of 2+ years of experience. - Hold Licensure as a professional geologist, registered geologist, certified hydrogeologist, or similar. - Ability to interpret and conduct analysis of hydrologic, hydraulic, chemical, geochemical, geophysical, geotechnical, and geologic data to address project/reporting requirements. - Direct field work experience includes oversight of drilling operations, soil/lithologic logging, aquifer testing, potentiometric gauging, and groundwater sampling. Experience overseeing drilling via direct push, hollow-stem auger, air-rotary (sonic and rock coring experience is a plus). - Excellent verbal and written communication. Must be able to independently author technical reports and conduct independent technical review of project documents. - Experience developing technical proposals, technical approaches, and associated cost estimation. - Detailed knowledge of federal and state environmental regulatory frameworks, particularly CERCLA and RCRA. **Computer Skills:** - Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and Word - Intermediate to advanced experience with GIS and Surfer (or similar) - Intermediate to advanced experience with aquifer test analysis software (e.g., AqteSolv) - Basic to intermediate experience with MODFLOW-USG/MODFLOW 6 and Groundwater Vistas (or similar user interface) - Basic to intermediate experience with contaminant fate and transport modeling programs such as SESOIL, AT123D, VLEACH, HYDRUS, PHREEQC, - Basic to intermediate experience with 2D and 3D data visualization software such as Surfer, Grapher, Earth Volumetric Studio, Leapfrog, or similar - Prior completion of OSHA 1910.120 hazardous waste worker certification (40-hour HAZWOPER) and OSHA occupational physical exam and medical clearance allowing performance of field work at hazardous waste sites). - A valid driver's license is required. Must be able to travel domestically for client meetings and/or potential site visits up to 10% of the time. Must be able to obtain access to, and conduct work on, U.S. Government installations. U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Resident status is required. **Preferred Qualifications:** - Master's degree in hydrogeology, geology, water resource engineering - Intermediate to advanced knowledge of PFAS technical guidance and investigations. - Project management experience is desirable. - Specialized skills/experience in environmental regulatory requirements; environmental statistical methods (e.g., trend analysis) and software tools (e.g., SAS); environmental databases (e.g., data management); or commonly employed contaminant fate/transport models (e.g., SESOIL, AT123D, DUST). **Original Posting:** May 16, 2025 For U.S. Positions: While subject to change based on business needs, Leidos reasonably anticipates that this job requisition will remain open for at least 3 days with an anticipated close date of no earlier than 3 days after the original posting date as listed above. **Pay Range:** Pay Range $72,150.00 - $130,425.00 The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline onlyand not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
