The Georgetown Business Improvement District (GBID) seeks a Senior Manager of Economic Development with experience in urban planning, economic development, land use, or transportation policy, and strong data analysis skills applied to problem solving, community engagement, and placemaking. The ideal candidate understands how policy, data, and market dynamics shape neighborhood economic performance and works effectively across teams and with diverse stakeholders.
The goal of this position is to strengthen Georgetown’s economic competitiveness by supporting business retention and attraction, engaging key stakeholders, and using data-driven storytelling to communicate the neighborhood’s role in the District’s economy. The role advances economic development, community engagement, and placemaking priorities with BID leadership and partners and reports to the CEO while working closely with the Senior Leadership Team.
The Georgetown BID is a publicly chartered nonprofit dedicated to making Georgetown cleaner, safer, more user-friendly, and more vibrant. The BID operates programs in marketing, public space maintenance, streetscape improvements, economic development research, and transportation access. The organization has a $4.5 million annual budget and 27 employees and full-time contractors.
Research, collect, analyze, collate, and distribute real estate and market data for brokers, tenants, landlords, investors, and city officials.
Convene senior BID staff and stakeholders to coordinate the collection and distribution of data, reports, presentations, and other materials.
Create regular reports and host briefings for brokers and landlords with market updates, data, and insights.
Create and maintain dashboards and maps that communicate key insights into the state of the market.
Track changes in retail space occupancy, usage, and development projects in Georgetown.
Produce custom market and investment reports that promote Georgetown, for investors and brokers, as requested.
Build and maintain relationships with the broker and landlord community to share and collect data, keep Georgetown front-of-mind, and organize collective action on economic development issues.
Participate in meetings and presentations with relevant economic development agencies and organizations, including Advisory Neighborhood Commissions (ANC), the DC BID Council, the Washington DC Economic Partnership (WDCEP), the DC Building Industry Association (DCBIA), Destination DC, and the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED).
Maintain relationships with BID members to understand the needs of individual businesses and economic sectors.
Organize BID Member meetings and provide administrative support, including presentations on market updates, data, and insights.
Work cross-functionally to advance key economic development, land use, transportation, and placemaking priorities.
Design, implement, and manage special projects as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of related experience; graduate education may substitute for part of the experience.
Familiarity with District of Columbia businesses and/or government.
Ability to produce statistical information, graphs, and financial data through electronic and other media.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and persuasively to varied audiences.
Strong organizational skills, high attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, both independently and collaboratively.
Experience in facilitation and community organizing.
This position offers a competitive salary range of $75,000–$90,000, commensurate with experience. Benefits include paid time off, holidays, transit subsidy, and medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) coverage.
